      First test on arrival of the amcrest hd security camera. It is my intention to fit the camera outside but due to the work this involves i am waiting for the snow, wind and rain to give me a break. Therefore, the camera has only been tested indoors at this point. The parts of the system seem well made and the screen and its functions seem well thought out and it works well although i have used a wi-fi connection and it comes up with “firmware is the latest version” so wi-fi seems to work in place of an ethernet connection. I cannot get the phone app to work though, i don’t know if this is a problem with the app or something else. The camera is a differed kettle of fish though. I expected it to have a wider angle lens similar to a car dash cam, it only has a normal long range lens which is made worse as the fixing has no ball joint and cannot be fitted to the side and angled at the viewing area. The adjustment is up or down and horizontal picture adjustment. Multiple ir led’s are fitted so night vision should be good; in total darkness a clear black & white picture was visible. The pir seems sensitive; its range has yet to be determined.

    Good security camera for my purpose (i use it to. Good security camera for my purpose (i use it to monitor an oil tank at the edge of my property) – easy to set up, wireless range and image quality good. Motion detection sensitivity setting needs playing with sometimes.

    Even on lowest setting raindrops cause numerous wasted activations. During daylight even sunlight causing a new shadow causes an activation. I’m forever formatting because the memory card fills up and overwrites in no time at all.

I’ve not tried it outside yet. Monitor appears well built and is quite sturdy. Likewise, the camera is well made.     This amcrest wireless camera system is a little gem, not least of all for it’s reasonable price. It comes well packaged and presented so i was confident from the off that it was good quality. Inside you get the portable 7” wireless screen that was double bubble wrapped. The camera and the necessary power adaptors. The camera is solid and well made. It is fixed position (no pan/tilt/zoom) and includes everything you need to install is using two screws. However if you don’t want to do that you could position it inside pointing out of a window or something. You’d have to be mindful of the glass causing reflections etc but when i tried it worked well. The camera is weather resistant and should hold up fine to the great british summer….

    The simplest and clearest security camera i have used. .  i really like this equipment. For a start it is one of the easiest to set up i have come across, you will be using it in minutes. In fact it will take you longer to figure the best place for the camera and to tack the wire around than to see the images it produces. In the box you get a 7″ touch screen monitor dedicated to the cameras. The cameras all connect wirelessly to the monitor and you can connect up to 4 different cameras. The screen is responsive (but obviously not as responsive as a modern day high quality tablet) and all the settings and cameras can be done through the screen. This is a solid built device that provides a clear and detailed image in day and also a nice image at night thanks to the ir night vision leds. There are 2 power leads (one for the camera and one to charge the lcd), an ethernet cable to connect the monitor to a router (for use with an app to view remotely), arial for the camera and full instructions.
